Verrucae Treatment
(not suitable for under 12s)

What is a verruca?

Warts (hands) and verrucae (feet) are hyperkeratotic lesions found particularly over the pressure areas of the feet (heel and ball). They are caused by the human papilloma virus, and affect skin cells causing small rough papules.

Warts and verrucae are fairly common in teenagers and those with a reduced immune system. In 70% of cases the body is able to defeat these lesions in 2-3 years naturally. 30% however, can prove more stubborn and become painful.

Treatment method

Cryotherapy using liquid nitrogen

Cryotherapy involves applying small amounts of super cooled gases like liquid nitrogen, and is the most effective treatment for removing warts and verrucas of up to 7mm diameter. Cryotherapy sees success rates of around 75%, and although not a guaranteed treatment, most people find cryotherapy to be the most effective and the least time consuming method of treatment for these notoriously stubborn lesions.
